Coded Cultures: Openism Launch

The Coded Cultures festival launches at Ehemalige Polizeiinspektion am Hof in Vienna. The opening features performances by Artkillart, Phonotopy and N.M.O. It includes new work installed by Dries Depoorter and workshop installations by Hannes Waldschütz, Víctor Mazon Gardoqui, 000 and the Open Publishing Lab.
Coded Cultures is a multinational initiative to discuss and reflect the intersections of media, art, society and technology in experimental settings of workshops, labs, artistic interventions and the symposium Open Hardware Europe Summit.
OPENISM is the 6th issue of Coded Cultures, with previous editions existing since 2004. The festival is a forum to debate the cultural, political and societal relevance of critical maker culture by investigating concepts of openness („openisms“) and artistic strategies of technological appropriation, constituting communities of practice. Coded Cultures: Openism is organised by RIAT Research Institute for Arts & Technology.
It features a number of national and international participants such as Dries Depoorter /BE, Josh Harle /AU (“Pirate Maps”), Hannes Waldschütz /DE („Civil Disobedience: Repair“), Victor Mazon Gardoqui /ES (“AudioLAB Research / Repair / Create”), Mario de Vega /MX and Karl Salzmann /AT (“Vibrance”), Patricia Reis /PT (“Penetrating the Black Box”), Mz Baltazar’s Lab and Art+Feminism /US (“Edit-a-Thon”) and Maxime Fuhrer / BE AXIOM Open Cinema Lab”).
Presented in cooperation with Apertus – Open Source Cinema and Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien.
