“Erró’s oeuvre maintains a dialogue with the seminal artists of the twentieth century, such as Picasso, as well as the Street Art movement and the cartoon world of Walt Disney. As a contemporary witness, Erró captures the styles of past and present in his atlas of images. The kaleidoscopic nature of Erró’s work incorporates any image category of popular and high art, pop culture as well as propaganda and the everyday myths of our global society. In this manner, he creates order out of the chaos of the world. In this inventory of humanity he presents the protagonists of world politics next to figures from the history of literature, art and film. Through the investigation of world history he reveals the recurring structures of violence as constants of our society: the eternal battle between good and evil, natural and supernatural forces constitutes the visual subject matter of his history painting.
His humorously colourful Dataspaces reflect the plethora of images of our global world affairs.” (Dr. Jeanette Zwingenberger: Erró’s Infinite Saga, 2016)
Works by Erró were recently exhibited at Tate Modern (The world goes Pop), Grand Palais (Picassomania), Philadelphia Museum of Art (International Pop), Museum Angerlehner (Erró: Zwischen Comic und Picasso), Musée d’art contemporain de Lyon (Erró: Rétrospective) and the Ludwig Museum will held a retrospective in September 2016.
